My working space, dedicated to scale modelling, is located in our home "shared office" and is not really a dedicated room. But I was able to install myself a standing workshop with furnitures below, helping me keep my own space to work and store lots of items.
Of course, like all modelers, my addiction to stacking boxes of models can only be fulfilled by using a storage space in another room. Thankfully, I am able to stack them inside the house, I mean in the dry and temperature controlled area, avoiding the risk to store them in the attic or garage ruining them slowly over time.
BUT, and yes of course there is a but, displaying models is another story ... does it ring a bell ? In my workshop's room, I had two ideas for displaying models. One was to create a dedicated display for my collection of 500cc motorcycles and its 16 pieces. It stands right over the work area and makes the main decoration for my space.
The other idea that I share in this first news is to create more storage space in this room by dedicating one of three wall cabinets to showcase finished models. The center one is based on an Ikea furniture, bought empty, and the rest is custom made.
Four shelves are cut at a shop nearby and installed on specific brackets allowing to change height if necessary. At this time, I have a bigger height at the bottom for in flight models and the rest will showcase mainly planes standing on their feets.
A custom built wood frame receives the main glass and everything is held in place with 4 magnets for an easy install / removal operation. Below is the result with some pictures. Enjoy !
